Shopping list app Australia that checks prices before you tick

Most shopping list apps in Australia only tick items off. Discount Trolley builds one list with current prices and ordinary unit prices, then adds live cross-store compare, barcode scan, price history and Smart Swap.

Shopping list app Australia: ticks are not enough

You already know the tick-box trap. Plenty of apps let you write milk, bread and mince, then swipe them off in aisle. Useful. Still incomplete when Woolworths, Coles and ALDI price the same staples differently, and a half-price badge can lose on unit price.

We make Discount Trolley, so the bias is obvious. Search current prices, read the unit price, check Today's deals and keep your list, then compare stores live, scan barcodes, check price history and let Smart Swap suggest a cheaper comparable pack. Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, IGA, Harris Farm, Priceline and Chemist Warehouse where data is available. Not affiliated with those stores. The shelf can differ from the screen. Live prices need a connection.

This post is about a shopping list that also checks prices before you leave home. For a three-retailer-app howto, read compare grocery prices Australia with one list. For a habit on cents per 100ml, read how to use unit prices to find the cheapest groceries.

A shopping list that only ticks is a notepad. A list with prices is a plan.
  • You want ticks on a real weekly list.
  • You also want current prices and ordinary unit prices on the same phone.
  • Compare stores, scan or check price history when the choice is close.

What one shopping list covers

Build one shopping list with the brands and sizes you already buy. Search current prices. Open product pages. Read ordinary unit prices before pack-size theatre wins. Open Today's deals when a special looks loud.

On Today's Best Deals in mid September 2026, Discount Trolley showed two Coles lines with loud badges: Beach Road Naturals Paw Paw Extract at $1.00 was $10.00 with a 90% OFF badge, and Oral B Pro100 Cross Action Electric Toothbrush at $8.00 was $56.00 with an 86% OFF badge. Those are real specials from that screen. They are not proof that Coles won your whole shop.

On one My List screen in mid September 2026, Discount Trolley showed a $15.25 total and a $57.00 savings badge with Woolworths (1), Coles (2) and ALDI (0). The Woolworths line was a Minions Fleece Throw Rug at $6.25 marked Unavailable and Out of stock. The visible Coles line was Beach Road Naturals Paw Paw Extract at $1.00 was $10.00. A savings badge can be real on the specials that landed while another line quietly fails the trip. ALDI (0) on that list means those lines did not land at ALDI for that trolley.

  • One shopping list with the staples you actually buy.
  • Unit prices on the product page, so a bigger pack cannot hide a worse deal.
  • Today's deals for a quick check on loud specials.

Catch half-price specials that lose on unit price

Unit price decides whether a half-price badge is actually cheap. On a Pantene Pro-V Smooth & Sleek Shampoo for Frizzy Hair 375mL product page, Discount Trolley showed Woolworths at $10.00 and unit price $2.67 per 100mL. Use the same $ per 100mL habit when a private-label bottle and a brand bottle disagree on size.

A loud special can also fail the trip for another reason: the same SKU is not at every chain. When you need a live store check on the same product, open Compare Stores. On one Oral B Pro100 product page, the Coles special looked unbeatable, but Compare Stores said not available at ALDI or Priceline. That is the same-SKU trap: a special at one chain, and ALDI simply does not stock that line.

Comparative unit-price insight and Smart Swap help when the choice is messy, and price history helps when a was-price looks theatrical. On one Price History screen in mid September 2026, Discount Trolley showed Lowest $5.00, Average $11.40, Highest $22.00, a 56% below average badge, and a Half Price $5.00 specials note. Catalogue prices can differ in store, especially for fresh items. Confirm on the shelf before you buy.

Half price is a claim. Unit price is the check.
  • Read the unit price before a half-price badge wins the week.
  • Use Compare Stores when availability across the seven stores is the question.
  • Open price history when a was-price looks theatrical.

When to go deeper on a shopping list

Start with one list, search, product pages, ordinary unit prices and Today's deals. When the choice is close, compare the same product live across stores, scan a barcode, check price history, read comparative unit-price insight or let Smart Swap suggest a cheaper comparable pack.

Discount Trolley does not invent an offline mode for this post. Build and refresh the list when you have a connection, then tick in aisle. For a barcode habit, read how to scan a barcode and compare grocery prices. For a price-history habit when tags look theatrical, see the price gouging law grocery price check guide. For a weekly routine, see how to use Discount Trolley before your weekly shop.

Build the list. Compare the stores. Crown nobody forever.
  1. Start with one list plus ordinary unit prices.
  2. Then open live Compare Stores, scanning, price history or Smart Swap when the choice is close.
  3. Confirm on the shelf. No app should promise the screen always matches the ticket.

What Discount Trolley does (and does not) claim

Discount Trolley helps you check available grocery price information for your own list. It does not guarantee savings, prove a forever cheapest chain, or turn every half-price badge into a win. The shelf can differ from the screen. Re-check in store before you buy.

We are not affiliated with Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, Priceline, Amazon or Apple. Priceline prices are the catalogue prices Priceline publishes online, and franchise shelf prices can differ.

When store totals disagree, decide with trip cost. For spotting theatrical specials, read how to spot a fake supermarket special. For a watchlist habit on staples you repurchase, read how to track grocery prices.

  • No forever cheapest crown.
  • No invented savings promise.
  • No affiliation with the supermarket chains.

Questions shoppers still ask

What makes a shopping list app useful for price checks?

Plenty of apps only tick items off. Discount Trolley builds one shopping list with current prices, search, product pages, ordinary unit prices and Today's deals, then adds live cross-store comparison, barcode scanning, price history and Smart Swap across Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, IGA, Harris Farm, Priceline and Chemist Warehouse where data is available. Confirm on the shelf before you buy.

Does Discount Trolley include a shopping list?

Yes. You get a shopping list alongside current prices, search, product pages, ordinary unit prices, Today's deals and community browsing, so the list and the price check live in one place.

What does live cross-store comparison show?

Compare Stores puts the same product side by side at the other stores, so you can see where it costs less and where it is not stocked. Check pack size and unit price, then confirm the shelf price before you buy.

Can a half-price special still lose on unit price?

Yes. A loud badge can look cheap while cents per 100ml or per 100g go the other way. Read ordinary unit prices on the product page before the badge wins the week, then use comparative unit-price insight or Smart Swap when the choice is messy.

Which stores does Discount Trolley cover?

Seven Australian stores: Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, IGA, Harris Farm, Priceline and Chemist Warehouse where data is available. Availability and price can differ by suburb, and the shelf can differ from the screen.

Does Discount Trolley work offline as a shopping list?

This post does not claim an offline mode. Build and refresh your list when you have a connection, then tick items in aisle. Re-check prices in store when a line looks uncertain.

What is the best grocery list app in Australia?

It depends what you want the list to do. If you only need ticks, a notes app will do. If you want prices on the same list, Discount Trolley shows prices, specials and unit prices from seven Australian stores: Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, IGA, Harris Farm, Priceline and Chemist Warehouse. Share the list with your household, and sort by aisle at stores with aisle data. To see how other Australian grocery apps compare, read our guide to the best grocery apps in Australia.
