Supermarket price comparison Australia starts with your list
You have probably already lived the catalogue loop. Flip the Woolworths booklet. Open the Coles app. Check ALDI Special Buys. Then still wonder whether the loud half-price lines beat the staples on your actual trolley.
We make Discount Trolley, so the bias is obvious. Search a product, read the unit price, browse Today's deals and keep your list, then compare stores live, scan barcodes, check price history and try Smart Swap when a choice is close. Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, IGA, Harris Farm, Priceline and Chemist Warehouse where data is available. Not affiliated with those stores. The shelf can differ from the screen. Live prices need a connection.
This post is about catalogues versus a live list check. For a shopping list that also checks prices before you tick, read shopping list app Australia that checks prices. For a three-retailer-app howto, read compare grocery prices Australia with one list.
- Catalogues sell the week. Your list decides the trip.
- Today's deals and ordinary unit prices catch the loud specials before you leave home.
- Live Compare Stores shows which of the seven stores carry the same product, and at what price.
What catalogues get wrong for your trolley
Weekly catalogues and circulars are great at theatre. They are weak at your exact brands and sizes. A Special Buys line can win the cover while milk, bread and your usual shampoo never appear. A was-price can look heroic on paper while cents per 100ml go the other way on the shelf.
On Today's Best Deals in mid September 2026, Discount Trolley showed two Coles lines with loud badges: Beach Road Naturals Paw Paw Extract at $1.00 was $10.00 with a 90% OFF badge, and Oral B Pro100 Cross Action Electric Toothbrush at $8.00 was $56.00 with an 86% OFF badge. Those are real specials from that screen. They are not proof that Coles won your whole shop, and they are not the same as flipping three PDF catalogues hoping your staples appear.
Discount Trolley lets you open Today's deals, search current prices and read ordinary unit prices on product pages. That is the first honest cut after a catalogue binge: check the lines you actually buy.
- Catalogues push what the chain wants to sell.
- Your live list shows what you actually put in the trolley.
- Loud was-prices still need a unit-price check.
Is there one online grocery catalogue for Coles, Woolworths and ALDI?
Not from the supermarkets. Coles, Woolworths and ALDI each put their own catalogue online, on their websites and in their apps, and each one only shows that chain's specials. Prices and specials can also differ by area, so set your store before you trust any of them.
That leaves you with three catalogues and a lot of scrolling past things you never buy. Fine for browsing on a slow night. Slow when the real question is which store wins on the items already on your list.
Discount Trolley flips it around. Open Today's deals to see current specials from Coles, Woolworths and ALDI in one place, then check them against the list you actually shop from. Unit prices show whether a half-price badge is cheap per 100g or just a bigger pack. Cross-store compare shows what the same product costs at the other stores, and price history shows how this week's price sits against what it usually costs.
Keep the catalogues for ideas if you like them. Let your list decide where you shop, and check the shelf price before it goes in the trolley.
Check the same list live, not three brochures
Build one shopping list with the brands and sizes you already buy. On one My List screen in mid September 2026, Discount Trolley showed a $15.25 total and a $57.00 savings badge with Woolworths (1), Coles (2) and ALDI (0). The Woolworths line was a Minions Fleece Throw Rug at $6.25 marked Unavailable and Out of stock. The visible Coles line was Beach Road Naturals Paw Paw Extract at $1.00 was $10.00. A savings badge can be real on the specials that landed while another line quietly fails the trip. ALDI (0) on that list means those lines did not land at ALDI for that trolley.
Unit price decides whether a half-price badge is actually cheap. On a Pantene Pro-V Smooth & Sleek Shampoo for Frizzy Hair 375mL product page, Discount Trolley showed Woolworths at $10.00 and unit price $2.67 per 100mL. Use the same $ per 100mL habit when a catalogue special and a private-label bottle disagree on size.
When you need a live store check on the same product, open Compare Stores. On one Oral B Pro100 product page, the Coles special looked unbeatable, but Compare Stores said not available at ALDI or Priceline. That is the gap a catalogue never shows: a special at one chain, and nothing to compare it with at the others.
- One list with the staples you actually buy.
- Unit prices on the product page, so a bigger pack cannot hide a worse deal.
- Compare Stores when availability across chains is the question.
When a live check beats another catalogue flip
A catalogue cannot tell you whether the same product is cheaper at another store, whether this price has been lower before, or whether a sensible swap exists. Compare Stores, price history, barcode scanning, comparative unit-price insight and Smart Swap can.
Open price history when a was-price looks theatrical. On one Price History screen in mid September 2026, Discount Trolley showed Lowest $5.00, Average $11.40, Highest $22.00, a 56% below average badge, and a Half Price $5.00 specials note. Catalogue prices can differ in store, especially for fresh items. Confirm on the shelf before you buy.

- Start with Today's deals, unit prices and your list.
- Then open Compare Stores, price history or Smart Swap when the choice is close.
- Confirm on the shelf. No app should promise the screen always matches the ticket.
What Discount Trolley does (and does not) claim
Discount Trolley helps you check available grocery price information for your own list. It does not guarantee savings, prove a forever cheapest chain, or turn every catalogue special into a win. The shelf can differ from the screen. Re-check in store before you buy.
One more thing: Discount Trolley is independent. We are not affiliated with Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, IGA, Harris Farm, Priceline, Chemist Warehouse, Amazon or Apple. Amazon AU shows only when a match is verified. Amazon is not a store in the app. Priceline prices are the catalogue prices Priceline publishes online, and franchise shelf prices can differ.
When store totals disagree, decide with trip cost. For a watchlist habit on staples you repurchase, read how to track grocery prices. For a price-history habit when tags look theatrical, see the price gouging law grocery price check guide.
- No forever cheapest crown.
- No invented savings promise.
- No affiliation with the supermarket chains.
What this looks like in Discount Trolley

Questions shoppers still ask
What is the best supermarket price comparison Australia approach?
Start with the list you actually buy, not a catalogue cover. Discount Trolley shows Today's deals, current prices and ordinary unit prices for the items on your list, then adds live cross-store comparison, barcode scanning, price history and Smart Swap across Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, IGA, Harris Farm, Priceline and Chemist Warehouse where data is available. Confirm on the shelf before you buy.
Are supermarket catalogues enough for price comparison?
Catalogues are useful for spotting promoted specials. They are weak at your exact brands, sizes and availability across chains. Check the same lines on a live list, read ordinary unit prices, and use live Compare Stores when the same SKU may not stock everywhere.
Is there an online grocery catalogue for Coles, Woolworths and ALDI?
Each supermarket puts its own catalogue online, and each one only covers that chain. Discount Trolley shows current Coles, Woolworths and ALDI specials in Today's deals, lets you check them against your shopping list, and adds unit prices, cross-store compare and price history so you can see which deal suits your shop. Check the shelf price before you buy.
Does Discount Trolley show Today's deals?
Yes. Today's deals puts current specials in one place, so you can check them against your shopping list and read ordinary unit prices before a badge wins the week.
What does live cross-store comparison show?
Compare Stores puts the same product side by side at the other stores, so you can see where it costs less and where it is not stocked. Check pack size and unit price, then confirm the shelf price before you buy.
Can a catalogue half-price special still lose on unit price?
Yes. A loud badge can look cheap while cents per 100ml or per 100g go the other way. Read ordinary unit prices on the product page before the badge wins the week, then use comparative unit-price insight or Smart Swap when the choice is messy.
Which stores does Discount Trolley cover?
Seven Australian stores: Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, IGA, Harris Farm, Priceline and Chemist Warehouse where data is available. Availability and price can differ by suburb, and the shelf can differ from the screen.
Compare supermarket prices on your list, not on a brochure.
